New biome!

The day I acquired my first biome ever! Lots of little guys. Biome put together by June Strings. Includes: Duckweed, Filamentous Algae, Hornwort, Moss, and Guppy Grass. It also has some bladder snails, copepods, seed shrimp and scuds. Multiple of the copepods had eggs, and one of the bladder snails did too.

I'll be back to add more images :)

Chaos!!

Welp, my biome has already gone off the deep end, lmao. I think there was too many bladder snails or copepods, and everyone died or went hidden so damn fast!! SCREAMS. Tomorrow, my roommate and I are exploring the lake so I might bring my bottle. I also want to get new jars, as my current jar's shape does not make caring for it easy. Been doing more and more research. I thought I did something to mess up my biome, but I think I got it with too much going on already, as I learned that too much of any of them really screws up the entire ecosystem. At some point in the future, I would love to maybe even start an ocean one. But I want to make a couple fresh water ones on my own first.

A New Beginning

Went to Lake Washington to start my new jar from scratch! Tomorrow, I'm going to a speciic pond to fill out a second one. There's already new weird little guys I've never seen! It's a little hard to see everything, so I need to wait a couple weeks for everything to settle. I might have a little too much algae in this one, but honestly? Time to experiment. Time to fuck around and fall out.

Also talked to June about what happened with my other biome. We narrowed down what most likely happened- possibly was sealed too soon and/or not enough plant matter. Seems like a lack of oxygen, considering the speed of the collapse, and the stinkiness.

I've been learning so much! Like the fact I need an actual trowel. And the fact I'm not going to keep any of my biomes in bottles, just because if I need to give them TLC, it's hard to access. Jars only!! If it's a big one, glass lids to help the sunlight get in.
